A group of fundies which include the Christian Coalition, the AFA, FOTF, and so on have complained about the television show, "Boston Public", one of FOX TV's fine television shows. I've seen the show a few times, and it's entertaining. However, it's not for children, and we all know that if you are a fundie, you are too stupid to use your remote control, and too careless to watch what your kids watch.

According to the article at Washington Post, it's noted that the show "has been recognized by the Ad Council for helping prevent high schoolers from dropping out. It also won an Environmental Media Association award for an episode about contraception and population growth, and an NAACP Image Award, among others."

Sheesh. They got their TV Ratings. Then they got their V-Chip. What more do they want? I got some new pro-family legislation to propose... if you are too careless and stupid to manage your own entertainment, you shouldn't own a television.

When they came for the video games, i said noting because I am not a gamer. When they came for Star Trek I said nothing for I am not a Trekkie. When they came for Harry Potter I said nothing for I am not a nerd. But when they silenced the porn there was nobody to speak up for me....

You can complain, true, and you hae every right to. The problem is that you blur the line between saying "Hey, I don't like this and I won't watch it" and "Hey, I don't like this so no one should watch it". The first is your First Amendment right to speak, the second is censorship and violates other people's First Amendment rights to hear.

Unusually clear and logical for a fundie, I'll give him that, but a nice crisp fiver says the troll doesn't reply.

The principle guy is cool, but I have no love for the show, but if it helps kids in school, it's fine with me. The REAL insult to intelligence, nationwide, is the show that comes on after Boston Public.

I might mind more if the show didn't suck. It's just so damned melodramatic. Of course, maybe the only reason I think that is because I haven't been watching Primetime TV since Seinfeld went off the air, so I can't judge on Boston Public's competition. It might be 10 times as melodramatic (Alley McBeal, I'm looking at you).

1) I am impressed we had a christian and/or fundie responding to us, way cool, kudos, hope we hear from them again. 2) Why do fundies seem to pick and choose just what they want from the Bible? If Leviticus such an all fired cool book, then you better not be eating the other white meat. And if Jesus broke the covenant of the Old Testament with his new covenant, then I don't want to hear any fucking quotes from the Old Testament. It has become a traditional method to interpret--take the small quote and analyze the hell out of it. "Traditional" does not equal proper, of course! However, a fundamentalist and those brought up in "bible study" will consider this a legitimate method of criticism.

It proves as valid as switching on a show, seeing something yucky--"Eeew! Dennis Franz's butt, again!"--and then judging the entire show.

Fine . . . yes . . . NYPD Blue IS all about Dennis Franz's butt . . . I need a better analogy. . . .
