Before becoming mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg was asked by a reporter whether he had ever smoked marijuana. His response: " You bet I did. And I enjoyed it."

New Yorkers are apparently going to become much more familiar with that quote over the next several weeks. The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, or NORML for short, is beginning a $500,000 ad campaign to plaster the mayor's words in telephone booths, bus shelters, the radio, and even in the New York Times.

Bloomberg is of course rather embarrassed by the publication of his statements. "I'm not thrilled they're using my name," he said. "I suppose there's that First Amendment that gets in the way of me stopping it."

Or, you may just consider being more careful what you tell reporters, Michael.
