What gets me is this: the one guy (Charles, from above) is the only one out of the ten or so people there that is being charged, and even worse, he's looking at a maximum penalty of five years in jail and a $5,000 fine.
I've never historically been an advocate of the death penalty, just for the sheer cost of killing a prisoner (legal fees and cost of proceedings and appeals tack up more than just letting convicts go to prison). However, I'd like to make an exception in the cases of sick wastes of carbon like these guys.
Wait. No, fuck the death penalty, that would be getting off easy... how about roasting him slowly alive? Or, as Nick has suggested, sending him through insulin coma therapy? I swear, you can't torture guys like this enough to bring justice to the scenario.
A good samaritan named Sherry Scott deserves attention for not only scaring all of the torturers away, but trying bravely to (and injuring herself in order to) rescue the cat. Even though the cat died, she had the guts to stand up and fight people who were doing an injustice to another being.
Anyway, I'm now going to try to read enough to forget about this. The image of that poor kitten... no, I've said enough.
