In an
earlier
story we told you about the dramatic removal of Amanda
Blair and her same-sex date for the dance by police because of
a school policy forbidding dates of the same sex. Blair isn't
a lesbian but said she took a same-sex date out of support for
GLBT youth.
I'm pleased to report that after Blair enlisted the support
of the ACLU, Big
Piney high school has changed its policy and no longer
forbids taking dates of the same sex to school functions.
Blair's mother said that she still wants the school
district to adopt a written policy explicitly stating that
dates of the same sex are permitted. She also has said that
the district has failed to apologize for their bad
behaviour.
