It's happening, folks: The Backlash. Groups of people from the ACLU to NBC are firing up a petition against the FCC, demanding the reversal of its rulings, and the CWFA is not happy about it. According to the the article, several groups are petitioning, including "Viacom, Fox, RadioOne, Citadel, Beasley and Intercom, performers Margaret Cho and Penn & Teller, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Media Access Project." All are working to get their free speech. The lawyer of the petitions, Bob Corn-Revere, writes that "The FCC consciously assumed the role of a national arbiter of good taste, and its decision already is exerting a chilling effect," No duh, Bob. The FCC has no right to be the all-powerful censor of the United States. There's a V-Chip. USE IT!
The fundies are not liking this at all. Just yesterday I got an email from the AFA (Stupid fundies spam me because I voted in their poll.) Yelling and screaming about the new FCC petition and how to stop it. Their article reads, in part:
We must not be silent and allow these broadcasters to seize the public's airways to benefit their own pocketbooks. Please don't let that happen. If these powerful big money corporations and liberal groups get the FCC to reverse their decision, they will be able to use the "F" word or any profanity at anytime. There will be absolutely nothing they cannot say or show!Uhh, sorry friends, but last I checked, you could turn off your TV/Radio/modem. Just because your religion forbids this garbage does not mean you have to force your beliefs on us. And I'm sorry if they reverse their decision, but hey, words ARE JUST WORDS! You give them the power to offend by reacting to it! I'm sorry, but if you want to censor something, get a V-chip, or even better, Get this thingy. It's a lot better, and it even bleeps out God's name being used in vain! Best of all, the innocent don't have to fall prey to your beliefs!
