In a 22-2 vote the board of the Log Cabin Republicans have chosen not to endorse President Bush in the 2004 Presidential Election.

"In a statement afterward, Patrick Guerriero, executive director of Log Cabin Republicans, cited exit polls showing that more than one million gay men and lesbians voted for Mr. Bush in 2000. That included 45,000 in the pivotal state of Florida, which Mr. Bush carried by roughly 500 votes.
"Some will accuse us of being disloyal," Mr. Guerriero said. "It was actually the White House who was disloyal" to those gay voters, he continued."

They continue to say that they support Bush's stance on terrorism, national security and the economy, and " his compassionate and historic leadership in the global fight against HIV/AIDS." They are currently collecting money for some type of advocacy advertising.

The group will not endorse John Kerry. Why? Because of his flip-flops, they say. On what issue you ask? Gay marriage. Since he personally opposes same-sex marriage, though supports full equality rights for gays(an improvement), but still opposed the FMA, he is a flip-flopper.

Wait, wait. You mean because the man refused to let our nations most sacred document be used to make a group of people second class citizens, regardless of his own personal beliefs, he is to be "denounced", as the article states it.

Oh and one more thing. Kerry does support civil unions, which the FMA did not allow. So, wouldn't that make his stance consistent?

Listen, if for ideologically reasons you feel you can't support Kerry, then fine, stay home. But don't mask that decision with gay ideology. Even though you are not supporting this president, you sure don't mind taking swipes at his opponent for him.

I really don't see where Kerry has flip-flopped. (Esp compared to, say, Cheney...)

Once in office {fingers crossed}, hopefully he will flip-flop, and decide to support gay marriage! Now there's a change I could endorse!

I honestly don't understand why people even care what Kerry thinks about gay marriage --- it's not like Kerry could order gay marriages anyway. As long as he doesn't actively campaign against it (the way G.W. Bush does), it makes no difference.

I think the perception of flip-flop comes from saying that he supported giving g/l couples everything but the word marriage and then saying he would have supported a MA constitutional amendment to ban marriage equality. Kerry is a far better choice than Bush on this issue but hopefully someday we will see some politicians with the guts actually support marriage equality rather than just disagree with discriminatory amendments.

I wouldn't call that 'gay ideology'. That's just republican ideology.

I don't care what his personal views are. He's a government employee. So long as he's able to shelve those personal feelings and do what is right and fair for all citizens, that's all that I expect.

Kerry wants to ban gay marriage in the Mass. constitution. Are gays supposed to give him a break because he supports discrimination against gays in Mass. but less-so somewhere else? The Mass. constitutional convention first defeated the anti-gay amendment, but then passed it later after Kerry came out in support of it. Kerry/Edwards even say they support the recently passed Misouri state amendment that makes no provision for civil unions or domestic partnership whatsoever!

Discrimination is wrong. Bush is wrong. Kerry is wrong.

Telling people the only way to prevent it is to only have sex if married, blocking the truth about other ways for people to protect themselves, and disallowing the most vulnerable population from the protection of the marriage he supposedly endorses as the means to morality and good health, is leadership??????

It looks like this group of poor souls are caught between a rock and a hard place. My advice to them don't vote either candidate since you fear the homophobic goose steeping of the Bush Neo-Cons and the back-stabbing from Kerry about Gay Marriage. Or you could turn your back on your so-called "buddies" in the GOP gets some balls a vote for Kerry! They could really make a statement right here, but noooo!
