At long last, Air America Radio will arrive in the San Francisco Bay Area with a 5,000 watt station out of Oakland, KABL 960 AM. KABL is owned by Clear Channel, which has added several Air America Radio stations recently. Clear Channel, often perceived by liberals to hold a conservative bias, insists that its decisions are motivated by money, not by politics. Their actions seem to indicate they believe there's money to be made in the liberal talk radio niche market.

KABL General Manager Joe Cunningham said of the move, "There's a general misconception that Clear Channel as a company must be aligned one way or another. These are just business decisions of where we can find the best programming. The Bay Area is pretty hungry for it." Clear Channel Senior Vice President Ed Krampf adds, "We're capitalists. We put on what the listening audience wants."

The 7-million-resident strong San Francisco Bay Area joins 29 other municipal areas and two national satellite radio providers broadcasting Air America Radio's unique perspective and hosts. Phoenix, AZ and Rochester, NY were also recently added to the Air America Radio affiliate lineup.
