The Left Behind series, which concluded its main portion last year, is a series dealing with the end times, at least according to Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, the authors of the series. Pilot Rayford Steele organizes a ragtad troupe to take on AntiChrist Nicolae Carpathia, who rules the world. Guess who wins?

Now the authors are coming up with a prequel to the LB Series, the first of which is "The Rising." The Rising takes place when Rayford and Nicolae were little tykes, raised in their own separate ways. However, the ways they were brought up were quite interesting.

Good 'Ol Rayford was brought up playing soccer, raised in a moral, yet religiously indiferent home, and was a self-conscious happy person who dreams of becoming a pilot. As for Carpathia, The Antichrist is the end result of two homosexual fathers whose DNA has been spliced together by the anti-christian power of genetic engineering, and Satan helped too! According to BookPage.com, While Rayford was trying to avoid taking the family business, Carpathia was given "every conceivable physical, political and educational advantage." A review from the L.A Times further verifies this:

Yet, in "The Rising," intended as a prequel to the series' dark days, the two currents never meet: It's as if there were two books in one. There is the antichrist, a genetically engineered test-tube baby with the DNA of two homosexual fathers, whose ascension to power is built on a complex scaffolding of old-time right-wing conspiracy theories and the 150-year-old "literal" interpretation of the Book of Revelation known as dispensational premillennialism.

While Carpathia is created by a conspiratorial group of "international bankers," young Rayford Steele is out playing soccer, baseball and football, and going through puberty and eventually off to college, where he falls for a pretty cheerleader and socialite only to realize that he doesn't love her. No real blood or gore here and little of the heavy-handed moralizing and paranoid politicking of the other half of the plot.

So while Carpathia is genetically built into the person he is, and of course, amassing an education and several other things the article calls Carpathia "embodying everything stereotypically liberal," it's clearly known who the antichrist is going to be: A left-wing son of homosexuals! Thanks for the warning Lahaye!
