The mother of Army Specialist Casey Sheehan of Vacaville, California (about an hour's drive from the morons.org lair) could be anybody's mother. I can imagine my own mother doing something like Cindy Sheehan if I were killed in an unjustified war. She is outraged over her 24-year-old son's death in Iraq and rightly steamed about the way Bush treated her when she met with the President in June of 2004, a few months after her son's death. She said President Bush didn't bother to learn her son's name, constantly disrespected her by calling her "mom" and acted as though he were at a party.

Now she's camped out near Bush's Crawford, Texas ranch where Bush has just started a 5-week vacation. (Because Bush is just a common man, and who doesn't take 5 weeks of vacation when they feel like it?) She has vowed to camp out until Bush agrees to speak with her. Bush did send out two advisors to speak with her on Saturday, but they just fed her the party line on Iraq.

This morning on Air America Radio, I heard host Jay Marvin (filling in for Jerry Springer) ask Sheehan (and forgive me if I don't get these quotes exactly right; I was driving at the time and couldn't write them down), "What do you say to people who say that we have to finish the job we started in Iraq?" Sheehan echoed the sentiments of many Americans by replying, "what's the job?" Sheehan earlier told reporters, "I want to ask the president, why did he kill my son? He said my son died in a noble cause, and I want to ask him what that noble cause is."

A lot of us are wondering that too. Well over 1800 US troops have died, countless Iraqi civilians have been killed, and untold numbers of people have been wounded, and what's it all for? Why can't we get anything out of the Bush administration for answers except for party-line propaganda? Why won't the media do its job and report on the Downing Street memos, the Duelfer report, and the blatant lies and deception used by this administration to start this war?

This war has gone beyond politics. It's gone beyond fun and games, wars of words and propaganda. We need serious answers. We need this administration to treat our troops with the respect they deserve. These are human lives they're playing with, and from Cindy Sheehan's story, it doesn't sound like they're taking that responsibility very seriously. We wish her luck in her efforts to see the coward in chief, but suspect he'll continue to hide in his hole in Texas.
