By now you may have heard that family-values Republican Senator David Vitter (R-LA) has been seeing DC-area prostitutes, as revealed by the release of telephone numbers by the "DC Madam." Deborah Jeane Palfrey released the numbers after a judge lifted a restraining order on her records.

You may recall that back in May, ABC News ran a special on the list on its 20/20 program, but failed to release any high-profile names.

Now it's funny enough when a politician gets caught with his pants down (so to speak), but it gets better: here's David Vitter's campaign statement on protecting the "sanctity of marriage":

This is a real outrage. The Hollywood left is redefining the most basic institution in human history, and our two U.S. Senators won't do anything about it.

We need a U.S. Senator who will stand up for Louisiana values, not Massachusetts's values. I am the only Senate Candidate to coauthor the Federal Marriage Amendment; the only one fighting for its passage. I am the only candidate proposing changes to the senate rules to stop liberal obstructionists from preventing an up or down vote on issues like this, judges, energy, and on and on.

Yes, that's right, David "I'm having an affair with a prostitute" Vitter was a co-author of the Federal Marriage Amendment.

This isn't the first time David "sanctity of marriage" Vitter has found himself in trouble. Back in 2002 he dropped out of the race for governor of Louisiana just before allegations of an eleven-month affair with known-prostitute Wendy Cortez appeared in The Louisiana Weekly. Vitter denied the allegations in 2004.

But fear not; Vitter's marriage is safe. In a written statement he said, "Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way."

Why thank you for apologizing to the gay community, David! You certainly did disappoint us by co-authoring a constitutional amendment to "protect" marriage from gays while at the same time you were disemboweling marriage yourself with your affairs and your visits to prostitutes.

And we're certainly grateful that you now completely and utterly lack any moral authority to talk about the sanctity of marriage ever again.
