NO! NO! NO!!! This is just one more sign that the Democratic so-called "leadership" should be replaced -- and the sooner the better! Lieberman (and, in fact, *ALL* Democrats!) need to be shown that, while it's okay to criticize the Party and question the direction of it's policies and/or politics (this, after all, is what democracy is all about!), there has to be at least one line that cannot *EVER* be crossed: going over to the opponent's camp during an election -- especially during a Presidential election! (After all, can you recall a *Republican* ever having campaigned for a Democratic presidential candidate? Would the Republicans even *allow* such a thing without serious repercussions?) Otherwise, what the hell is the point of even *having* a two-Party (let alone a multi-Party) system if the membership (or *leadership*) can just jump ship whenever they please into the waiting arms of the "enemy"? (Remember: if one does this while one is in the Military, it's called "desertion"; and the penalties tend to be pretty severe!)
At the very *least*, Lieberman should lose *all* of his committee chairmanships and positions. He should also be denied any further DNC campaign financing if he chooses to run again. (The DNC should *not*, however, interfere if other Dems wish to contribute to or campaign for him -- that's *their* prerogative.) He should also not be allowed to caucus with Senate Dems unless he is willing to accept doing so on a permanent probationary basis. If he is unwilling to accept the above conditions, then he need only look at Zell Miller as an example of what can happen to those who lose credibility within the Party.
