Seven and a half months later, the final election of the 2008 cycle has reached its conclusion, as today the Supreme Court of Minnesota ruled unanimously that Al Franken won that state's Senate race over Norm Coleman. With Norm Coleman having announced his concession roughly an hour and a half ago, there is now nothing in the way of Al Franken becoming Senator Al Franken, and he is expected to be sworn in sometime next week. I expect his fellow Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) will be thrilled to have some of the weight taken off of her shoulders. Congratulations Al, we couldn't be happier for you.

But before we go, a note to Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). Your caucus now has 60 members. No more excuses. Any cloture votes that fail from here on in are failures of your leadership. Any Democratic policies that fail to get through the Senate are failures of your leadership. Your job is to make Democratic priorities in the Senate happen, and you have enough Democrats now to force anything short of a Constitutional Amendment through. The country voted for all these Democrats because Americans want Democratic policies enacted. Your responsibility to your constituents and to the country is to see that they are. If you don't, the voters will act accordingly. You like being in the majority? I suggest you start acting like it and do the people's work. Starting with a public option for health care..
